Does the Soul Need a Legacy?

Lately ive been thinking about my legacy. What the thing im working towards in this short human lifetime that will ensure that im not forgetten about.

I think that i have a purpose- to build a momentum, a lineage of work teaching women how to truly be empowered and sovereign. For me, it feels like my greatest purpose- like i was put here on earth to embody and share my wisdom. I also feel like maybe Im supoosed to also be a mother…but somedays, im not so sure about that.

But what if it wasnt any of that. What if it wasnt anything at all...and thats what im having a hard time coming to terms with

I feel that many of us feel we need to build something to leave behind when we die. We need to be remembered as someone who truly did something. We have children for legacy- to leave a piece of us behind. I also feel its biology and human nature to want to create something that will outlive us- so we can pass a piece of our DNA on.

The thought of not having anything to pass on really scares me. It makes me wonder if my life was ever truly valued or worth something. It scares me because in 100 yrs time- nobody would remember me and everyone i love will be dead. Do you remember your great grandparents? Or even Your grandparents? Probably not that much. And thats crazy to think that they probably didnt die that long ago. And when they did die- how long did it take for life to go on as normal without them in the world and for them to slowly be forgetten about. They probably had dreams, desires, cute little quirks that made them unique...and now- just ash- gone

I think about this alot- my mortality. I know im only young- 36. But life is getting faster and faster. Im ageing, i can see it happening in real time and i love seeing my wisdom lines and wisdom hairs coming through...but it does make me feel scared that my time is rolling on...and what have i got to show for it?

I feel thats why we want legacies- we want to know we can be remembered for something...that we mattered. But at the end of it all- do we actually matter? Does having your multiples degrees and certificate's actually matter? Does climbing the work ladder actually matter? Does having that family actually matter? Does making a difference in the world and needing to create something of value & worth actually matter?

Or what if the whole point wasnt to be remembered. What if we're just meant to fade into dust and ash and soil and be forgetten about- another thread woven in the tapestry of lifes existence? I feel its our ego that wants to be remembered, it knows that time is finite and this personality/identity inside this specific human body in this point in time on planet earth has an expiry date.

But the soul- the soul is eternal. The soul knows no limits or expiry dates. The soul is infinite in this great cosmic soup of existence. The soul needs no legacy. The soul has never needed to be remembered.

The soul doesn't experience itself as beginning or ending. It isn't trying to become immortal because it already is. The soul doesn't need a legacy.

It only asks one question:

Did you fully live while you were here?

Maybe legacy was never about being remembered or building something

Maybe its about how many hearts you touched, how much you truly lived and loved and expressed your true self

Maybe its about the lives you changed in a subtle and not so obvious way

Maybe its the kindness that you passed on to others when they were in their darkest hours

Maybe its the true appreciation of nature and the beauty of the natural world

Maybe its in how you show up in your communities and the work you do to maintain connections

Maybe its in how open you were to life and expressing your creativity and sharing your art with the world

Maybe its in the way you treat animals and the compassion you show to other sentient beings

Who knows.

But what I do know is this- when i think about how i can just show up in life- removing the pressure of having to become something/someone other than who i am right now- with my inherent skills of just being a kind and caring human- it reminds me that maybe im already living my legacy…

and isn’tthat enough?
